Hilton Worldwide operates one of the world's largest hotel chains with more than 4,300 hotels and over 715,000 rooms in 94 countries. The company has a portfolio of 12 well-known brands including the Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Doubletree, Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Home2 Suites by Hilton and Hilton Grand Vacations.

The Hilton brands range from luxurious full-service hotels and resorts to comfortable extended stay suites, quality mid-price hotels and vacation ownership properties.

The company launched a new lifestyle brand called Canopy which is set to debut in 2015.

The company's membership rewards program is known as Hilton Honors and has over 30 million members worldwide.

Hilton is owned primarily by the Blackstone Group and went public in 2014.

In 2014, the company added 36,000 rooms and has 1,351 hotels in the pipeline consisting of 231,000 rooms.

The company reported revenues of $10.5 billion in 2014 and net income of $682 million.

In February 2015, Hilton sold the iconic Waldorf-Astoria hotel in NYC to Anbang Insurance of China for $1.95 billion. The company will continue to operate the hotel through a 100-year agreement.

History

Conrad Hilton founded the company with the purchase of his first hotel -- the Mobley Hotel -- in Cisco, TX in 1919.

Conrad's great-granddaughter is socialite and celebrity Paris Hilton.

The first hotel to bear the Hilton name was the Dallas Hilton, a high-rise that opened in Dallas, TX in 1925.

In 1954 Hilton hotels bought the Statler Hotel chain, making it the largest hospitality company in the world.

The company was publicly traded until it was bought by Blackstone Group in July 2007 for $20.1 billion.

In 2009, Hilton moved its worldwide headquarters from Beverly Hills, CA to McLean, VA.

Hilton opened its 600,000th hotel room in 2010.
